Deb HolcombLost: 103 Pounds
Gained: Freedom from pain

Deb Holcomb is a busy working mother of five who for many years struggled with arthritis, high blood pressure, and debilitating back pain due to obesity. Many of her family members are overweight, and have experienced painful conditions connected with their obesity.

Deb herself had been overweight for more than 30 years, starting around the time she was a young mother in her late teens. Over the years she tried countless diets, drugs, and other weight loss plans, but nothing lasted long term.

When Deb decided to undergo weight loss surgery, she made a commitment to completely change her life.

“I knew I wanted it to work, so I did what I had to do,” she says.

Deb met with Dr. Bob Korn, and together they decided that she would undergo a surgical procedure called Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Since her surgery, Deb has dropped from 238 pounds to 135. Most importantly, her health problems are gone or greatly improved, and she has a nearly endless supply of energy.

She calls the day of her surgery her “do-over” day: “It has totally changed my life,” she says. “Dr. Korn gave me the chance to do it right the second time around.”

And she is indeed doing it right. She keeps the weight off through daily exercise and determination, diligently following Dr. Korn’s instructions. She is a regular speaker at weight loss seminars through St. Luke’s Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, where she tells her story to help educate others and keep herself motivated and inspired.
